Introducing Solids

Over the last few weeks we have noticed that Miles is taking an interest in watching us while we eat. He tracks our food being put into our mouth and on occasion will make a chewing motion himself. We decided that it may be a good time to introduce solid food to him and see how he likes it. After doing some extensive reading we decided to follow the Baby Led Weaning approach to foods where we don't spoon feed Miles purees, rather he feeds himself with whole pieces of food. The idea is that Miles will not have to transition to table food and will develop a wider range of flavor and texture preferences. We understand that this approach is not for everyone, however we like that we are able to sit at the table together and engage in conversation and sharing our meals together.  So far Miles has had avocado, banana, sweet potato and pumpkin. We will soon start to give him the same food that we are eating with the exception of a few items, i.e. honey, nuts and some fishes.

He lifts the food to his mouth but is still unsure what to do from there. He will chew, but prefers to cough and make silly faces. It will take a while before he can connect all the steps and make this a substantial meal but until then he is getting used to the whole idea.
"What is that green thing and why is it on my tray?"

All done!
